When to visit Bhutan

Your decision on when to go should align with what you would like to experience most in this majestic country. Each season has something unique to offer. This makes Bhutan an all year round destination.

For those who revel in the beauty of nature and are drawn to favorable weather, the spring season, spanning from March to May, is your perfect match. During this time, Bhutan is transformed into a natural paradise, with valleys teeming with lush greenery and flowers in full bloom. This is an excellent time for invigorating nature walks and adventurous treks. Don’t miss out on the vibrant Paro Tshechu festival, a springtime highlight that showcases the rich culture of Bhutan.

If you’re captivated by stunning panoramas, consider visiting during the autumn months from September to November. During this period, the skies are crystal clear, offering awe-inspiring views of the magnificent Himalayan peaks. Additionally, the Thimphu Tshechu, one of the most grandiose festivals in Bhutan, takes place in the fall.

For bird enthusiasts, winter presents a unique opportunity. Despite the chilly conditions, especially in the mountainous regions, winter, which runs from December to February, is the migration season for the endangered Black-necked Cranes. They make their way to the Phobjikha Valley, making it a prime time for bird watching.

Although the summer months from June to August are characterized by monsoon rains, which can impede travel, this season brings a unique charm to Bhutan’s landscape. Plus, you’ll encounter fewer tourists during this time which might just be your cup of tea if you prefer a more serene atmosphere.

No matter when you choose to visit, remember that Bhutan values the preservation of its environment and culture. As a result, the number of tourists is regulated. This means you’ll need to plan your trip well in advance to secure your spot in this extraordinary kingdom.

    FAQs

How do we get to the country? Is there a direct flight?

    + -

You would either be flying via Delhi, Kathmandu, Calcutta or Bangkok. There are no direct flights possible to Paro. This makes it appealing to consider a multi-country holiday. All of our Bhutan tours can be tailored to suit your preferences.

What kind of accommodation is available for travellers?

    + -

A standard tour to Bhutan will include good quality bed and breakfast style accommodation (3 star) and a luxury tour would include top end luxury hotels for stay.

    Do I need any vaccinations?

    + -

Specialised travel-medicine clinics or your GP are your best source of up-to-date information. They will recommend the requirement for any vaccinations which may be required. Another good source of information is the NHS travel medicine website fitfortravel.nhs.uk. The key for travel vaccinations is to plan early. Most vaccines don’t give immunity until at least two weeks after they’re given and vaccines like diphtheria and tuberculosis require a three-month incubation, so visit your GP well before departure. Ask your GP or travel clinic for an International Certificate of Vaccination (sometimes known as the ‘yellow booklet’), which will list all the vaccinations you’ve received.

Do I need a visa for my Bhutan holiday?

    + -

All travellers require a visa to travel to Bhutan which is arranged by us prior to your arrival in Paro. Our tours include any applicable visa arrangement fee.
