By February, the long winter spells of UK are beginning to take their toll. Many of us are looking for an escape from these short days, dark evenings and cold weather; and taking a break from it all and going on a holiday.
Even though February is the shortest month of the year, the wintery days and nights can seem to make the month drag on. Escape to the warmer climes and options are plenty. From royal Rajasthan Thar desert to Sri Lanka’s sandy beaches to Keralan tranquility.
India: February is dry and sunny throughout India making it an excellent time of year for an Indian holiday. In a similar vein to January, the temperature in the country’s far northern states of Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim will be cold, and there is likely to be snow on the ground. Kerala & Goa expect plenty warm sunshine days with temperatures reaching late 20 degrees celsius to early 30s.
Sri Lanka: February is unquestionably amongst the best all-round months to travel in Sri Lanka, with dry and warm weather expected across most of the country’s highlights and key regions such as the Cultural Triangle and Kandy. In Tea Country things are naturally cooler due to altitude. Expect plenty of sunshine along the West and south coast beaches.
Bhutan: For bird enthusiasts, this month presents a unique opportunity. Despite the colder conditions, especially in the mountains, the winter, which runs from December to February, is the migration season for the endangered Black-necked Cranes. They make their way to the Phobjikha Valley, making it a prime time for bird watching.
Nepal: Daytime temperatures can be pleasantly warm, particularly as the month draws on, so it’s a good time of year for sightseeing. Temperatures drop quickly once the sun goes down though, so you need warm clothing for evenings and early mornings.
